Best known for her figurative work, Blakemore Nixon's paintings reflect rhythmic design and mood.
"In considering my subject, I want to touch more than surface appearance." Joan says "It is my desire to reach the core, perceive the very essence of that subject.
After initial decisions, I find that I become immersed in the excitement of the process rather than the subject." Her painting process involves layering rich glazes of color to emphasize both the realistic and abstract elements of each painting. A skillful technician, a conveyor of mood, Joan works either in a single medium or combines various media.
An award winning artist, Joan has participated in juried competitions on a national basis. Her work is represented in collections in the corporate and private sector and has been on exhibit in numerous solo and group invitational shows internationally.
In 1990, Joan was invited as a guest artist on the TV talk show, "Get a Kick Out of Art", has published illustrations in "Odyssey" and "Passages", both books of poetry and "Visions, International No. 56" and "Vision, No. 58". In 1996, her work was featured in two issues and on the covers of "Catalist" magazine. She is included in the Who's Who National Listing of American Disabled Artists and is an all media instructor, working in Lakeland, Florida.
