Originally from Gaylord, Michigan, Shirley currently lives in Lakeland. She has a BS degree from Michigan State University and MBA from Central State University in Edmond, Oklahoma. Since retiring she has been regularly enrolled in classes with local artist both in Minneapolis and Lakeland. She has also attended formal workshops with Betty Carr, Joy Moon, Gerald Brommer, Mary Beckwith and Mary Todd Beam.
She is a former member of the Minnesota Watercolor Society and a current member of the Lakeland Art Guild, Bartow Art Guild, Florida Watercolor Society and the National Collage Society. Her work has been accepted in juried shows with the Lakeland Art Guild, Arts on The Park and Maitland Art Center, receiving several awards.
Artist Statement: As I reflect on my past, the need to create has been a constant force in my life. In the business world the positions that I held all involved creative problem solving. Since retiring that creative force has been channeled into art.
