Jon Boring
I starting shooting with a film SLR in high school and was amazed at the images I could capture with a telephoto or wide angle lens. Ever since, I have not been too far away from a camera. When the advent of digital SLR’s, I became excited about the opportunity to combine my computer science background with photography. Finally my left and right brain get to meet! Today, I shoot using a Canon 5D body with Carl Zeiss manual focus lenses. I find the old German glass produces a much sharper and cleaner image. I then "develop" the raw files using Photoshop. Amazingly, you can perform all the same tricks like dodging and burning that you do in a film lab, just on a computer. I shoot in color-mode and then convert the images to black-and-white. I print using an Epson 9800 printers. The Epson Ultra Chrome inks are archival quality and rated for up-to 100 years on most papers.
My passion is classic black & white photography. Black & white allows the eye to focus on the primary elements of the scene such as texture, pattern and form. Most of my black & white images are landscapes, cityscapes and still life. I am particularly moved by water scenes and reflective lights. I also shoot "fun tropicals" in color where I try to capture the color and essence of the tropical landscape.
