James Millikan Lasley

Recently, my artistic passion has lead me in many different directions. With the world in a heightened state of spasmatic convolution, my art has been swept along in the madness. This insanity as caused a strong, primal desire deep inside me for images, sounds and feelings that are simple and clear. Sometimes, just when I think that the straightjackets are all that's left, suddenly my cluttered mind shuts-down and all is good ... the threshold has been crossed and now I can connect with what is simply real or simply unreal. I made a sculpture recently named: "An Altar Piece for the God of Low-Tech." I am not longing for something far away or long ago. I am just reaching into the smoke of the present and trying to grab a piece of what's out there. If I can put my discoveries into an electronic, video/photographic form, fine. If not, I'll work in whatever medium I feel has the power to release my "news" into the outside space. With my immigration into simplicity, I dream of leaving the United States of Amnesia (ref. Gore Vidal) and joining the new Neanderthals of our present world.

You know more than you think.
