I have been a successful graphic designer for the past 25, mostly doing image work for my husband’s material handling company. I have, over the years, created logos, letterheads, business cards and such for many companies, in Ohio and Florida.
Over the past 7 years I have become involved in ceramics and fused glass art. There is a similarity involving the clay and the glass, which allows me the freedom to express myself in several ways.
I have been displaying my work in several galleries for the past 2 years, and I have been selling my work in gift shops as well. I have also been commissioned for pieces.
Most of my work involving clay is hand built, although I enjoy throwing on the wheel. I typically decorate my pieces using a form of raku. I will take the piece out of the kiln when the temperature reaches 11000 and place horsehair onto it. After it cools, I paint a wash over the piece and finish with a luster or a wax. Most pieces are purely non-functional, although I do brush on a clear gloss coat for protection.
Working in my studio, whether with clay or glass has become my passion. I truly love to create beautiful pieces of art. I am inspired by my family, I enjoy being judged by my peers, and I am especially grateful that people are willing to purchase my work purely for their pleasure.
